Well, This burger is downright fantastic. In truth, I don't really like turkey burgers because I find them to be bland and stiff. In fact, I am much more apt to choose a veggie burger because they have more going on in the flavor department. Consider my opinion changed.
Ditch your standard summer burger and try this fresh twist! Stacked with peppery arugula, nutty swiss and a smear of wicked blackberry bourbon molasses, (on a buttery brioche bun) it's in a word, YES.
"A side of warm naan or fluffy rice will help extend the number of servings."
Notes: Coconut milk is full-fat. Harissa is Trader Joe's.
TURKEY OAT BURGER WITH BLACKBERRY BOURBON MOLASSES
Ingredients: For the burgers: 1 lb. ground turkey, 1/2 cup quick-cook oats, 1/4 cup honey mustard, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. pepper, 1/2 tsp. onion powder, 1 tsp. minced garlic, brioche buns, fresh baby arugula, sliced swiss cheese. For the molasses: 1 six-ounce container blackberries, 1/4 cup dark molasses, 1 shot bourbon.
Makes 4 quarter-pound burgers
1. Heat blackberries, bourbon and molasses over medium-high heat until simmering. Turn down to medium and simmer until reduced by half and glossy, about 15 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, mix the ground turkey, oats, honey mustard, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic with your hands gently until well incorporated. Form 4 patties and set aside.
3. Grill or fry the burgers over medium heat until temperature inside reaches 165*, or about 5 minutes per side. Spoon the molasses over each burger once flipped, then lay over the swiss.
4. Build the burgers with arugula on the bottom. Enjoy!
