I had planned it to be a standard drink; then, after a sip decided it was so good, it needed nothing more. Apple cider is pretty sweet; you'd be surprised how well lime and ginger marry with it and change the flavor from syrupy apple to spicy Granny smith--that's what this drink reminds me of, with some nose-tickling effervescence as well.
Notes: Ginger ale is Canada Dry.
SOUR CIDER GINGER FIZZ (MOCKTAIL)
Ingredients: 4 ounces apple cider, zest, and juice of 1/2 lime, 1 tsp. honey, 1 tbsp. sugar, 2 ounces ginger ale, ice.
Makes 1.
1. Rim the glass: mix the sugar and lime zest on a plate. Dip the rim of the glass in honey, then into the zesty sugar. Fill with ice.
2. To a cocktail shaker add ice, apple cider, and lime juice. Shake vigorously.
3. Pour the mixture over the ice in the glass and top with 2 ounces of ginger ale. Garnish with a slice of lime, if you like.
TIP
To make this drink boozy, add 1.5 ounces of vodka.
